Compliance made easy

Is your business and fitness equipment compliant?

Compliance with Work Health & Safety (WH&S) legislation is crucial for business owners. Regardless of the size or nature of your business, you have a legal duty of care to ensure the safety of your employees and clients.

Under WH&S regulations, equipment safety is a key component for fitness businesses. You must have procedures in place to check, maintain, and repair equipment and ensure that clients are aware of proper usage.

Authorities such as WorkCover or WorkSafe can inspect your premises if they suspect any breaches. In such cases, you may be required to provide documentation demonstrating that your gym equipment is regularly inspected for safety by a qualified specialist.

Non-compliance can lead to significant penalties, including fines of up to $1,650,000 for corporations and $165,000 or 5 years imprisonment for individuals.

Jack from Gymtechs came to repair my exercycle, but 30 seconds before he arrived, DISASTER! My garage door malfunctioned and would not open; I could not get my car out! With great compassion, Jack delayed his schedule for some minutes to sort out the problem for me. He then fixed the bike problem he had come for expertly and efficiently. Gymtechs had managed to give me an appointment with quick turnaround time from my call, and it was a bonus to have such a kind, efficient person like Jack to do the job. They certainly get my vote for any future repairs!

Frequently Asked Questions

Establish a regular cleaning routine for home gym equipment maintenance and wipe down surfaces after each use. Lubricate moving parts as recommended by the manufacturer. Inspect cables, belts, and resistance mechanisms for wear or damage and address any issues promptly. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for maintenance, including tightening bolts, storing equipment properly, and replacing worn-out parts.
While individuals can do basic maintenance tasks like cleaning and lubricating, professionals or authorised technicians best handle more complex repairs or adjustments. Attempting to fix equipment without proper knowledge and expertise can lead to further damage or safety hazards. It's advisable to refer to the manufacturer's instructions and contact their customer support or seek professional assistance for any significant repairs or maintenance needs.
Safety is paramount when performing maintenance on fitness equipment. Before starting any maintenance tasks: 1. Ensure the equipment is powered off and unplugged. 2. Use proper tools and equipment to avoid injury. 3. If you are unsure about any maintenance procedure or encounter difficulties, consult the user manual or contact the manufacturer or a professional technician for guidance.
Rust can significantly damage your fitness equipment, so prevention is key. To prevent rust, keep your equipment in a clean and dry environment. Wipe away moisture or sweat after each use, paying special attention to metal components. If you notice any signs of rust, use a rust remover or a gentle abrasive cleaner to remove it and apply a rust-resistant coating or paint to protect the affected area.
Lubricating your treadmill is essential for reducing friction between the belt and deck, ensuring smooth operation. Consult your treadmill's user manual to identify the specific lubrication points and recommended lubricant. Typically, silicone-based lubricants are used for treadmills. Apply the lubricant to the manufacturer's instructions, and avoid over-lubrication to prevent excessive buildup.
First, check for loose bolts or screws and tighten them if necessary. Inspect the belt for proper alignment and tension and adjust it, if necessary, according to the manufacturer's guidelines. Additionally, lubricating the belt may help reduce friction and noise. Always refer to the treadmill's user manual for specific instructions on lubrication, and if the noise persists, seek the assistance of a professional technician.
If you're experiencing issues with your elliptical, check the power source and ensure it's properly connected. Check the console for error messages and refer to the user manual for troubleshooting steps. Inspect the moving parts for any obstructions or loose connections. If the problem persists, contacting the manufacturer's customer support or a professional technician may be necessary.
If you notice a loose or frayed cable on your cable machine, it is important to address the issue promptly. First, determine if the cable can be tightened using the adjustable tension mechanisms provided. If not, contact the manufacturer or a professional technician for assistance. Do not use the machine if the cable is severely damaged or poses a safety risk.
It is advisable to check the tension and resistance settings on your rowing machine periodically, especially if you notice any changes in the feel or difficulty of your workouts. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for adjusting the tension cord or resistance mechanism. This will help ensure that your rowing machine provides an optimal workout experience.
The frequency of battery replacement in fitness equipment consoles varies depending on usage and the specific model. Generally, replacing the batteries every 3-6 months or as indicated in the user manual is recommended. Regularly check the battery indicator on the console for any low battery warnings and replace them promptly to ensure accurate readings and proper functionality.
