Fitness equipment compliance
Is your business and fitness equipment compliant?

As a business owner, it is important to understand your responsibilities and be compliant with the law.

All employers have a legal “duty of care” to guarantee that workers and clients are not exposed to health and safety hazards as a result of the business’s operations.

Work Health & Safety (WH&S) legislation defines these duties for all businesses, regardless of the number of employees or the nature of the business.

One of the Key Components of the WH&S Guide for Fitness Businesses is “Equipment Safety”.

Your business is required to have a procedure outlining how you will ensure that the equipment is safe to use. This includes procedures for checking, maintaining, and repairing equipment, as well as ensuring that clients understand how to operate the equipment correctly.

Authorities (eg. WorkCover or WorkSafe) have the right to enter your premises to conduct an inspection if they believe that there have been potential breaches of the Act or Regulation.

You may be required to provide documentation that your gym equipment is in good condition and has been inspected for safety by a qualified specialist on a regular basis.

Breaches can carry heavy fines and, for the most serious cases, prison. WorkSafe Queensland lists the current penalties.

Gymtechs can carry out your gym equipment service and provide you with a safety inspection report signed and dated on completion.
